Hi, I'm Michelle Rodriguez (she/her), Chicana, Bay Area Native, and I am here to support you every step of the way on your pregnancy journey. My passion for birth work grew from my own contrasting experiences with the births of my two daughters. After completing my birth doula certification, I was eager to learn more about how our mind, body, and baby work together as a team throughout pregnancy, labor and birth. I find so much joy in providing a safe space for birthing families to explore their fears and working together to bridge the gap between feeling overwhelmed by birth through education, practice, and tapping into their innate strength.

I named my practice Birth by Mica (Mee-kuh) to honor my mother, who lovingly calls me Micaela (Spanish for Michelle). As a Certified Birth Doula (DONA), Certified Body Ready Method Pro®, Certified Body Ready Birth®Teacher, Certified Intentional Birth® Pro, Certified Perinatal Patient Advocate, Certified Lactation Counselor (ALPP), and Lamaze-trained Childbirth Educator, I bring a wealth of knowledge and a deep commitment to providing individualized, non-judgmental, culturally competent, compassionate care. I am passionate about advocacy, education and movement. I incorporate prenatal alignment tools, Spinning Babies®, Body Ready Method® techniques, and mindful birthing practices to ensure you feel prepared and confident. As much as I enjoy preparing for the physical act of labor, I equally enjoy exploring your mindset as you embark on your birthing journey; taking time to honor your fears and anxieties while tapping into your strength and power.

During the 26 plus years I worked as a Probation Officer, prior to my retirement from the County of Santa Clara in 2024, I had the opportunity to master skills in advocacy and trauma-informed care. This career provided me with a unique perspective and the ability to support families in a compassionate way so they feel seen, heard and valued.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from San Jose State University and have completed graduate coursework in Public Administration. Outside of my work, I enjoy volunteering as a Peer Counselor for Nursing Mothers Counsel, which provides free breastfeeding support to Bay Area families, witnessing my children pursue their passions, and traveling with my babies. I am proud to have raised two incredibly powerful, intelligent, compassionate daughters, ages 27 and 18. We celebrated my oldest’s graduation this year from UCLA School of Law and my little one has a passion for theater, physical fitness and plans to enter the medical field.

I am dedicated to serving birthing families throughout the southern Peninsula and South Bay, offering support for home births, birth center births, hospital births, epidurals, no epidurals, cesarean deliveries, and inductions. My goal is to help you feel overwhelmingly supported, confident, and empowered throughout your entire birth journey.

My ideal client is curious, driven, open to learning, values movement, excited to work as a team, wants to make informed decisions, protect physiology, and values humor. To me, protecting physiology doesn’t just mean “unmedicated.” I believe protecting physiology includes having patience with birth, tapping into your instincts, taking care of your basic needs, feeling safe, and listening to what your body and baby are communicating to you. I believe in you.

  • Emily's Testimonial

Michelle was the best decision we made for our birth— she goes above and beyond in every way. Everything from teaching us tons about labor and breastfeeding to staying by my side through more than a 24 hour birth, helping my husband physically support me through contractions with counter pressure and massage to helping me make big decisions in the L&D room, coming over to process my birth story and bringing a gift for my daughter to still texting me through mastitis three weeks later, she was an absolute godsend.

She made what could have been a scary birth experience still so positive! She helped me to trust my body, be calm in the hospital, and liaison between us and hospital staff. Not to mention she did all this and still managed to capture photos and videos we didn’t even know we needed but will cherish forever of the birth. I will always be grateful for the way Michelle supported my husband and I through this big and special time welcoming our first baby into the world! We’d recommend her to anyone, and can’t wait to hire her again!

  • Elizabeth's Testimonial

I cannot recommend Michelle highly enough as a doula. From the very beginning, she was an incredible source of support, making my experience as a first-time mom smoother and more reassuring. Michelle’s attentiveness to my questions, careful preparation for my ideal birth plan, and continuous presence throughout were invaluable. Even when my original birth plan didn’t go as expected, Michelle and her backup team ensured I felt cared for and supported every step of the way.

  • Anne's Testimonial

My husband and I loved having Michelle as part of our birth journey for our first baby. We live away from our families and wanted to have someone who has been through the birthing experience, with us for our pre-birth prep and in the hospital with us during labor. I specifically was worried about the pain of labor and how to handle it. My husband was most concerned about how to advocate for me and what we wanted in the labor and delivery room at the hospital since we've never been through a birth before. Working with Michelle before delivery, she helped us both to work through those fears. During our meetings she took the time to talk to us about how we were feeling and to understand where we were coming from. From there she used her knowledge and experience to give us advice on how to face those worries that we had. I think that was the most helpful part of having a doula - helping us understand what to expect and how to handle our fear of the unknowns.

  • Tom's Testimonial

Having Michelle as my birth doula was the best decision we made! She exudes calmness and kindness. She is very knowledgeable and also empowers you to make the decision that's aligned with your values. She was truly my advocate during the birthing process, encouraging me to take time to ask questions and validated and supported me during a difficult and stressful labor. I had a lot of anxiety throughout my labor and she was able to validate my concerns while also making me feel safe and taken care of. She taught my wife supportive positions to help me during the labor and guided us through movement.

  • Elizabeth's Testimonial

Michelle’s positive personality and uplifting energy made us feel deeply connected to her. She was sensitive to our culture, which made the experience even more personal and meaningful. I loved hearing her experiences as a mom to a daughters, which resonated with me, especially since we welcomed our own baby girl. Michelle always approached her role with professionalism and respect, never being pushy but offering guidance that empowered us to make the best decisions for our family.

  • Baby Saami's Testimonial

I felt so much relief when she attended the birth! She helped me relax during surges by using physical techniques, giving me honest feedback about why I couldn't relax (which would resolve my tension), and providing space for my emotions. I loved how real she kept it for me after the birth when I felt disappointed in myself for using medication; Michelle was there to process those emotions with myself and my husband. We loved how she was also attentive to my husband's needs and questions. She gave a lot of space for the both of us to cuddle and do our thing, and instructed my husband on how to help set a relaxing environment.

  • Tiffany's Testimonial

Hiring a doula was the best decision I made during my pregnancy journey. Having her by my side made me feel empowered and less anxious. She provided me with knowledge and support that helped me navigate the uncertainties of labor and birth. With her guidance, I felt more in control, which ultimately contributed to a positive birth experience.

  • Tammy's Testimonial

When we first found out we were expecting our first child, we immediately knew we wanted to explore the idea of having doula support us through our labor and delivery experience. We first met Michelle through a video visit and fell in love with her level of care and support. My reason for seeking doula support was due to a lot of medical anxiety surrounding giving birth. Michelle listened to our anxieties was so kind and understanding. I loved her trauma-informed care and she made me feel safe during my prenatal experience and in the delivery room. Michelle provided multiple visits, check-ins, and phone calls under our perinatal timeline. She kept us accountable and asked thought-provoking questions. On the evening of our delivery, she adjusted to the last-minute change of our birthing hospital and met us in Oakland instead of San Jose. Having her in an unfamiliar hospital and space made my partner and I feel safe and secure.

  • Elizabeth's Testimonial

Her support extended beyond just me and my husband—Michelle was there for my entire family during the birth, offering updates that brought peace of mind while I focused on myself and my baby. This caring act created a calm, connected atmosphere for everyone.

  • Grace, Joel and Baby Lily

Working with Michelle as our doula was hands down the best decision we made when preparing the birth of our first baby! From the first consultation, we immediately felt a strong connection with her and knew she would be a wonderful support person for us. Michelle has a deep passion for helping families have a safe and comfortable birth, and her knowledge and experience made us feel much more at ease as we prepped for our little one.

Michelle helped us develop our birth plan with compassion and care, asking what our biggest fears or anxieties were, and providing helpful ways to work through those feelings. She was always organized and prepped to answer our questions and provide additional, evidence-based resources to us. We really valued that she validated our feelings and wholeheartedly supported our decisions to help us have the birth we wanted to aim for.

  • Baby Alfonso's Testimonial

Working with Michelle for my son’s unmedicated birth was the best decision I could have made for our family. Although it was my third, I hadn’t had a doula for the first two. Michelle created space to share any concerns and worries that came up. She continuously offered solutions to alleviate aches and pains and checked in often to see how i was doing. My favorite statement of hers was “Tell me more about that.” So simple, yet it opened the door to exploring my fears and wishes. In addition, Michelle encouraged an open dialog with my support team, to ensure we were all on the same page when it came to roles and responsibilities. Our planned home birth was transitioned to a hospital induction, which brought up a lot of anxiety for me. My biggest appreciation of Michelle is that she empowered me to make choices, talk through our birth plan and advocate for myself.

  • Elizabeth's Testimonial

From in-person office visits to virtual meetings, Michelle’s care was thorough and accessible, adding immense value to our experience. She provided thorough education on breastfeeding and labor/delivery, shared referrals for placental encapsulation and nanny services, and made sure my husband felt included and essential, turning the birth experience into a shared journey.

Michelle’s warmth, expertise, and dedication made us feel fully supported from start to finish. We felt fortunate to have her by our side, and we wouldn’t hesitate to hire her again. She is more than just a doula—she is a compassionate guide, a true partner, and a friend who makes one of life’s most profound experiences truly unforgettable.

  • Grace, Joel, and Baby Lily

Michelle went through comfort measures for us to practice at home and provided us with supplies which were perfect for prepping us to labor at home. At the hospital, Michelle helped to navigate the lingo or questions staff had for us, always making sure we were feeling informed and comfortable with next steps. When I doubted myself, she helped to give me the strength to keep going, and her words of affirmation and physical help were always just what I needed to meet our baby in the way I'd always wanted.

Our labor was a truly empowering and joyful experience thanks to Michelle's guidance and support.

  • Vanessa's Testimonial

It took me a while to write this review because I wanted to find the right words to express the impact Michelle had on our birth journey. From our first meeting, her calm voice and reassuring presence immediately put us at ease—we knew right away she was the right Doula for us. As first-time parents, the pre-birth sessions with Michelle were incredibly informative. She patiently answered all our questions with care and clarity, helping us feel empowered and prepared.

My induction lasted a week, and Michelle was there for us every step of the way with consistent virtual support. During such a vulnerable time, she made sure we always had the information we needed to make confident decisions. When active labor began, Michelle arrived with her signature calmness, effective positioning techniques, and deep knowledge. Her support made all the difference. Hiring Michelle was hands down the best decision we made. If you’re considering working with her, take this as your sign—book her now. I truly can’t imagine our birth experience without her.

  • Annie 2025

DesHiring Michelle was the best thing I ever did for the birth of my first child. From the moment I met her, her calm, gentle, and loving energy put all the nervousness I had about my birth at ease. Initially I thought that hiring Michelle as my birth doula would only entail her supporting me at my birth, but I was blown away by all the labor/birth/breastfeeding education and resources that she provided us before the birth through several in-person and virtual educational sessions. Michelle helped me to be super prepared for my birth and to understand what my options were. On the day of my birth she was my rock and calm in the storm. There were a lot of various disruptions during my birth but through it all I always felt calm and reassured because I had Michelle by my side to help me navigate it all. I know for certain if Michelle weren't there at my birth, I would have been so terrified and scared. Michelle is an all around amazing human being and any client who has her as their birth doula is so incredibly lucky!

  • Elaine's Testimonial

My partner and I are first time parents and delivered our son through an unmedicated natural birth with the support of Michelle at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital (Stanford). Michelle was an amazing support person throughout the process. The prenatal sessions were invaluable to us, introducing us to the basics of lactation, comfort measures during labor, and going over our birth plan together. During early labor in the wee hours in the morning, Michelle was available over text and phone to discuss what the doctor was suggesting as well as suggesting positions to try to get the baby in the optimal position. I also found that labor kit she provided (especially the tens unit) very useful during the early stages.

She was a calm presence and advocate for me and got along well with all the hospital staff. She checked in on my recovery regularly during postpartum, and I loved having our follow up to process the birth experience.I’d highly recommend having Michelle on your birth team!
