Hi, I'm Michelle Rodriguez (she/her), Chicana, Bay Area Native, and I am here to support you every step of the way on your pregnancy journey. My passion for birth work grew from my own contrasting experiences with the births of my two daughters. After completing my birth doula certification, I was eager to learn more about how our mind, body, and baby work together as a team throughout pregnancy, labor and birth. I find so much joy in providing a safe space for birthing families to explore their fears and working together to bridge the gap between feeling overwhelmed by birth through education, practice, and tapping into their innate strength.
I named my practice Birth by Mica (Mee-kuh) to honor my mother, who lovingly calls me Micaela (Spanish for Michelle). As a Certified Birth Doula (DONA), Certified Body Ready Method Pro®, Certified Body Ready Birth®Teacher, Certified Intentional Birth® Pro, Certified Perinatal Patient Advocate, Certified Lactation Counselor (ALPP), and Lamaze-trained Childbirth Educator, I bring a wealth of knowledge and a deep commitment to providing individualized, non-judgmental, culturally competent, compassionate care. I am passionate about advocacy, education and movement. I incorporate prenatal alignment tools, Spinning Babies®, Body Ready Method® techniques, and mindful birthing practices to ensure you feel prepared and confident. As much as I enjoy preparing for the physical act of labor, I equally enjoy exploring your mindset as you embark on your birthing journey; taking time to honor your fears and anxieties while tapping into your strength and power.
Meet Your Partner in Birth
During the 26 plus years I worked as a Probation Officer, prior to my retirement from the County of Santa Clara in 2024, I had the opportunity to master skills in advocacy and trauma-informed care. This career provided me with a unique perspective and the ability to support families in a compassionate way so they feel seen, heard and valued.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from San Jose State University and have completed graduate coursework in Public Administration. Outside of my work, I enjoy volunteering as a Peer Counselor for Nursing Mothers Counsel, which provides free breastfeeding support to Bay Area families, witnessing my children pursue their passions, and traveling with my babies. I am proud to have raised two incredibly powerful, intelligent, compassionate daughters, ages 27 and 18. We celebrated my oldest’s graduation this year from UCLA School of Law and my little one has a passion for theater, physical fitness and plans to enter the medical field.
I am dedicated to serving birthing families throughout the southern Peninsula and South Bay, offering support for home births, birth center births, hospital births, epidurals, no epidurals, cesarean deliveries, and inductions. My goal is to help you feel overwhelmingly supported, confident, and empowered throughout your entire birth journey.
My ideal client is curious, driven, open to learning, values movement, excited to work as a team, wants to make informed decisions, protect physiology, and values humor. To me, protecting physiology doesn’t just mean “unmedicated.” I believe protecting physiology includes having patience with birth, tapping into your instincts, taking care of your basic needs, feeling safe, and listening to what your body and baby are communicating to you. I believe in you.
